A. Where to advertise will depend on who your target market it. You need to match any form of advertising - print or web - to the place where your target is likely to be. Talking specifically about Thailand (because I am here) there are many Thai language websites and magazines that you might want to consider,however if your product isn't in Thai then you might be wasting your money. A. Photoshop and Gimp are graphics editing/enhancing applications. They are not intended for page layouts. Microsoft Publisher and Adobe In Design are desktop publishing applications which can be used to create things such as posters, flyers, brochures, magazines and books. Not sure if free trials are available for either. Neither is free so purchase is required for continued use. Page Plus SE is a free desktop publishing app. I use it for quick designs and layouts on my laptop due to it's smaller size on disk.

A. Use Photoshop to create and edit your images, then use page layout software such as In Design to place them along with the text. Unlike Photoshop, In Design supports multiple page layouts so you can create all the pages in the one document making it easier when you come to adding or deleting text/images. It also has master pages so you can place items that occur on each page on a master and keep them consistent on each page. You can set up style sheets for text and graphics also to easily apply formatting. Tip of the iceberg really as to what it's capable of! Other software used by professionals is Quark XPress or if you're looking for something free, try the open source Scribus.

A. Why not look at the free or open source options scribus is an excellent tool once you start understanding how to use it. If you want to spend a mountain of money you can start with the low end such as serif or microsoft office suite, ( even free open office will more than do the job ) or you could go Adobe indesign, quark express. really it depends on your computer knowledge and how much money you are willing to spend for applications. Back in NZ I run a church newsletter as well as done song books, menues etc.. from a linux box and open office

A. In Design is Adobe's page layout software, you would use this to create your actual magazine as it supports multiple page layouts. You have access to master pages where you can place items that appear consistently on each page (eg page numbers) and paragraph, character and object styles to help you format your design consistently. An alternative to In Design is Quark XPress which would do much the same thing. But you will also likely want software such as Illustrator which you would use to create graphics - eg logos, graphs, and Photoshop to manipulate photos etc. The problem is, it is more expensive to buy Quark XPress, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat separately than it is to buy the software bundle from Adobe that includes In Design,… [cont.]

A. i used to use adobe pagemaker. its a publication-design software, specifically for designing magazine, brochures and newsletter. since its an adobe product, it directy saves as .pdf too, although you can also save it in different extensions.
