What is the best free software (not demo only!) to use for family tree charting and related genealogical work?
Q. I used smart draw but it's a demo only, I got a pdf print before the expiry but I don't want to do all that work again many times over. I can't really justify paying the $200 for the software when I know freebies are out there. Do any of you genealogists or family research buffs use a decent freeware or shareware program for your graphic tree-charting?

A. There are several that are available. I would avoid the PAF file unless you belong to the LDS Church or intend on becoming a member. There is a lot of things on it that are specific to the Church and have nothing to do with non-LDS genealogical research. You can purchase Family Tree Maker (FTM), Legacy or Roots Magic, which seem to be the current popular ones for less than $40. FMT is affiliated with Ancestry, however, I have found that most serious or professional Genealogists seem to be using Legacy or Roots Magic. Either program cost about the same. I purchased both programs at a Genealogical convention for $10.00 a piece, but I think they are about $30 on line. All three provide about the same charts and are pretty straight forward and… [cont.]

A. Belkin and some others are good at taking over the wireless configuration for windows. To start the Wireless Zero Configuration service, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, type %System Root%\system32\services.msc /s, and then click OK. 2. Double-click Wireless Zero Configuration. 3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply. 4. In the Service status area, click Start, and then click OK. That should take care of it. if you have any other question feel free to email me. For some reason which i didnt see it is YAHOO removed part of the address from it and replaced it with ...after the \services there should be one . and msc. if you still cant figure it out drop me an email or IM me at % S y s t e m R o o t % \ [cont.]

what is the difference between shareware, trialware and a demo software?
Q.
Asked by - Sun Apr 22 05:38:04 2007 - Software - 3 Answers - Comments
A. Demo is usually a cut up software that just presents the capabilities of the application. Trialware - software that works for a certain period of time (trial period), then you have to buy it or uninstall or it just simply stops working. Shareware - software that can be a trialware or demo. It just means that the software is not free and eventually needs to be purchased.

Is there software available which can use 2 incoming network connections, and utilize them as 1?
Q. Basically, my motherboard has 2 ports with 2 NICs. Is it possible I can purchase 2 connections from my cable provider, each on a separate router, and then combine them through software to split the data share, so that I effectively double the bandwidth? Or is it only possible to use them as two separate connections? Thanks

Do each of my computers connected to the same internet service need their own AV software?
Q. I have a desktop connected to the internet and two laptops using the same connection via netgear. Do they each need their own individual anti-viral software or is the Norton currently on the desktop covering them all?

A. They each need their own. I've had no problems using a free AV program like Avast or AVG and running the resident protection of Spybot Search and Destroy at the same time to catch anything that might be missed.

Is it safe to use the same internet connection software on different computers?
Q. Good Day to you! I have a DSL high speed connection that I want to transfer to another computer in my house from time to time. It's a temporary measure until I get a router (assuming I'm not violating my Service Contract). I'm concerned about someone else on the other computer being able to access my personal information from websites I've visited considering that I would have to enter same numbers (IP Address, DNS, etc.) that are on my computer. And when I finally get a router, won't I need to install the internet connection software on the other computer anyway? Please help, any advice will be appreciated. My isp requires that I enter the numbers they provide into a window called: Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties. Nothing… [cont.]

A. You can change the computer and install a router without violating your TOS. As for your IP address that is assigned automatically, and should not be entered on the computers. Even if it was, its not information they can do anything with really.

Is software available to allow wireless connections through cellular towers?
Q. I am looking for software to install into my wireless equipped computer which allows one to connect to the internet through cellular towers in vicinity of the computer. Is this software available (hopefully free) and where can I obtain it?
Asked by silverwolf1ms - Wed May 3 13:27:09 2006 - Software - 2 Answers - Comments
A. What you are asking for is a little far fetched, seeing that really the cellular towers are not providing Internet access. What they actually do is connect the phones to the telco switch, and only if its a connected phone with Internet services enabled can it provide Internet access. I would recommend you try looking for an Internet Hotspot instead. You can use software that comes with your wireless card to connect to that easily.
