what is the difference between shareware, trialware and a demo software?
Q.
Asked by - Sun Apr 22 05:38:04 2007 - Software - 3 Answers - Comments
A. Demo is usually a cut up software that just presents the capabilities of the application. Trialware - software that works for a certain period of time (trial period), then you have to buy it or uninstall or it just simply stops working. Shareware - software that can be a trialware or demo. It just means that the software is not free and eventually needs to be purchased.

What is the best free software (not demo only!) to use for family tree charting and related genealogical work?
Q. I used smart draw but it's a demo only, I got a pdf print before the expiry but I don't want to do all that work again many times over. I can't really justify paying the $200 for the software when I know freebies are out there. Do any of you genealogists or family research buffs use a decent freeware or shareware program for your graphic tree-charting?

A. There are several that are available. I would avoid the PAF file unless you belong to the LDS Church or intend on becoming a member. There is a lot of things on it that are specific to the Church and have nothing to do with non-LDS genealogical research. You can purchase Family Tree Maker (FTM), Legacy or Roots Magic, which seem to be the current popular ones for less than $40. FMT is affiliated with Ancestry, however, I have found that most serious or professional Genealogists seem to be using Legacy or Roots Magic. Either program cost about the same. I purchased both programs at a Genealogical convention for $10.00 a piece, but I think they are about $30 on line. All three provide about the same charts and are pretty straight forward and… [cont.]

A. I believe that the demo information left behind to prevent "uninstall/reinstall" is kept in the registry, but I would NOT advise doing anything to the registry unless you know what you are doing.

How to distract someone during a software demo?
Q. Hi Everyone, I work for Xerox. I have a customer coming in for a software demo Friday. Our software is not that hot, so I am trying to think of ways to distract them during the demo so that when they leave, they will think that everything worked well and they will have no questions. The only thing I have thought of is to have food in the room so they eat while they watch.

A. The standard method is to have scantily clad models rubbing themselves on the demo and the customers.

How many computers can you use Cake Walk software on?
Q. I am looking at buying cakewalk software but my dad wants to put it on 2 of his computers as well as mine. So we need three licenses in all and I would like to know from anyone who has experience with the software how many different computers I can install the program on per license.

Per the End User License Agreement, your purchase of the software grants you the nonexclusive license to have one person use the software on one personal computer at a time. If you want to use the product on more than one personal computer at a time, or if you want to network the product, you must obtain separate licenses from Cakewalk. If you have a second computer that you use on occasion, such as a personal laptop you use when away from your desktop, you may install the product on to the additional computer. You do not need to register the product again, simply use the same registration code tied to your account that has been generated for your unique serial… [cont.]

How to install software in multiple computers at the same time using windows server 2003?
Q. I would like to install a software in all my computers ( 6 ) how do i do this all at the same time? or do i have to install it all manually?
Asked by Patrick M - Sat Nov 17 08:08:07 2007 - Computer Networking - 3 Answers - Comments
A. To properly setup and package software for distribution via Active Directory or SMS would probably take at least an hour - more like a few hours - for EACH title. It makes sense to do an AD software install if you have 15-20+ clients... but for 6, you're probably better off with going to each machine and manually doing it. If you have 6 identical machines and you want the software on each to be identical, you could setup ONE system completely, then create an image using Acronis (www.acronis.com) or similar product and then put that image onto each system - just remember to use Sysprep right before you create the image so you don't end up with SID conflicts.
