Accounting software?
Q. What is the easiest, most userfriendly, most popular accounting software out there?
Asked by sts s - Tue Mar 6 07:54:40 2007 - Small Business - 2 Answers - 4 Comments
A. Why not check what is available specifically in your industry? Quickbooks is easy, user-friendly and popular, but it is not the right solution for a lot of businesses, because they need more than what it does. Define what your needs are first, then see what software will best fit them.

Q. I'm interested in starting a career in accounting (I have basic experience). What types of software is generally used to do AP/AR, Reconcilations, etc? Thx
Asked by pantheress559 - Sat Aug 11 21:38:53 2007 - Financial Services - 3 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Quickbooks and similar low end accounting packages are the most common for small business. However, there are hundreds and hundreds of accounting software packages out there for small business to large corporations. Some are designed for specific types of industries. The primary thing is that you understand the underlying concepts and many of them are similar in nature if you look at it from an accounting perspective. If you want to take it a step further, check into one of those 2-3 day certification classes for common software. Also, a big plus is knowing Excel (most common spreadsheet program), an extremely common tool for us accountants. Good luck!

Accounting Software?
Q. I had some accounting training 20 years ago, and it was the old school method with paper journals, ledgers, and worksheets. At the time, my class was just being introduced to d Base, Word Perfect, and Lotus1-2-3. I am currently teaching myself Microsoft Office Suite, at home. Should I also learn Quicken and Peachtree, to stay competitive in the job market for positions such as: bookeeper/accounting clerk? I have been working in circuit board assembly, and my office skills have become rusty. What courses/software applications are currently in demand in the accounting/financial job market?

A. Look in the newspapers, help wanted, on line jobs etc.. See what each company advertising wants, or requires, you to know, or be familiar with.

A. You should ask an account... :) Seriously, I would not want you doing my accounting if you don't know why accountants use computers. It is not at all unusual for a company to have hundreds or thousands of accounts and keeping track of them manually with paper and pencil would require a large room full of people. I do not foresee you being successful in this and suggest you consider another career... :) good luck.

How do I account for Credit Card Merchant account in Tally or other accounting software?
Q. I need to create groups of accounts for a company in Tally or other accounting software. I have 2 merchant accounts with different credit card companies. One of them credits my account in their bank and only sends me a statement of amount and commissions - other sends me a cheque after deducting the commissions. - How do I account for such accounts while making entries in to accounting software? Thanks for your time and help. I appreciate your answer Mr. Soni. My question was for a merchant account where customers pay me using their credit cards and then I receive the amount from credit card company. One directly credits my account with them while the other sends me a cheque. How do I open these accounts - under which group? Thanks again… [cont.]

A sample entry is given below for payment for XYZ expenses using credit card:- Dr XYZ expenses Rs 5000 Cr Credit Card a/c Rs 5000 Next, when you make payment (or deposit cheque in your Credit card a/c), the entry would be:- Dr Credit Card a/c Rs 5000 Cr Your Bank a/c Rs 5000 Remarks:- 1) XYZ expenses ledger to be opened under group "Expenses Indirect" 2) Credit card a/c to be opened under group "Bank OCC a/c" 3) Your Bank a/c to be opened under group "Bank a/c" For Tally… [cont.]

What is the best accounting software to use with an outsourced accountant and why?
Q. Hello everyone, I am the owner of a small business and I am looking to outsource my companies bookkeeping, accounting, and data entry. I am wondering if anyone has experience on this matter and can provided some insight on what accounting software is best to use when outsourcing, what website is best to hire from, and any other insights you can think of? Thank you in advance

A. The accounting software that you use on your end isn't going to make a difference to the company that you use to outsource your accounting. I would recommend pulling out the yellow pages though and contact a few different CPAs in your area to discuss your options with them before contracting an online company. You'll probably get a better deal and be much happier with the service.

What is the best and simple accounting software?
Q. I need an accounting software that is simple to use and user-friendly for my home and business expenses. I only need it to track my expenses. I would prefer the software to contain some sort of option to connect to my bank account online in order to track checks that have cleared. I've tried Quickbooks Pro and, to be honest, I didn't really put a lot of effort into learning how to use it, but for me it just wasn't very user-friendly. Inexpensive and easy... anyone know?

A. I'm not a professional when it comes to accounting or book keeping but i used to use Quickbooks and changed to MYOB just over a year ago. Both programs are fantastic. Quickbooks i would say is a little easier to use and the search options (for transactions) are great. MYOB is a little bit trickier yet very similar. As mentioned by someone else... you really should invest in a book keeper to consolidate EOM and ensure that all deposits/payments/purchases/outgoings are entered into the correct accounts. Things can get messy and if not done correctly or corrected, BAS/TAX would be incorrect.

Which accounting software would work for my situation?
Q. I need to reconstruct 12 years of business operations using some basic accounting software. I originally used Money 2002 but it is no longer supported. I need something fairly simple that will provide me with enough information to supply an accountant. Quick Books seems complicated and overwhelming. Anything simpler that will allow me to go back 12 years?

A. If you think Quickbooks is too complicated, then I would strongly recommend that you hire someone (or firm) to do the work for you, as you will not find a program anywhere which is easier to use, and which will do what you need done.

A. Go for Quick Books -- it is fairly simple to use, and gives you all the information you should need. It is expandable so that it can grow as your business grows. Your Accountant should be able to help you set it up with no flaws. But even if you don't have an accountant, it is simple to set up and use.

What is the best inexpensive accounting software for a home-based business?
Q. I'm start my own webstore from my home..I'm looking for the simpliest, most accurate, user friendly and most inexpensive accounting software possible...I have Windows XP Home Edition.

A. Quickbooks is excellent, and I would always recommend it first to businesses that have complex data entry, but it runs from $100-300. If you are looking for something cheaper and just as easy, check out Quicken (the little brother of Quickbooks and made by the same company). You can get the business program for $50...and it is compatible with most bank accounts. That means, you can download your bank account information directly into Quicken from your online account and save tons of data entry time. More banks do this for Quicken then for Quickbooks and it is fairly easy to use. It will also download into Turbo Tax at the end of the year to help you with your taxes. Hope this helps.

Which accounting software is best for a first year accounting student?
Q. I'm a first year accounting student and would like to teach myself how to use accounting software. My question is which software is better, Peachtree or Quickbooks, or should I learn both? Also how hard or easy will it be for me to teach myself these software programs? Thanks.
Asked by J L - Sat Jan 8 02:16:45 2011 - Software - 2 Answers - Comments
A. Most small businesses use Quickbooks so that is probably the best. You can take online training through Intuit and even become certified as a Quickbooks user. I suggest you learn Peachtree too because it is a lot different from Quickbooks although both are really easy to use. Bigger companies use more complicated programs but if you are computer literate it really shouldn't be a problem to learn any software. You may always want to familiarize yourself with tax programs. CPAs usually use licensed products designed for firms that prepare large amounts of returns but Turbo Tax is a good software to start with.

A. As a business owner, a basic knowledge of accounting is essential. You need to learn how to tell whether or not your business is doing well. First, I suggest buying a basic accounting book. There are many texts available, I'd get any old college or high school book. I am sure they are cheap. As for accounting software, sure quickbooks would be fine. Get yourself an old version: no need for the 2008 version just yet. But again, you need to learn about how accounting works.
